Has this something to do with themes and missing theme support for S2?
No, it's just a problem of that theme. I have seen the problem also in
other applications.
Is this bad luck with the chosen theme and (not sure) colors? Is
something
else buggy here? Can we fix it?
Changing color is not a good idea - it can behave strange in other
themes. What we can do is to rearange widgets or write our own progress
bar with shields icons.
