I'm running the 2.0.3 beta (freeciv-cvs-Jul-02.tar.bz2) on Fedora core
4.

        I'm running the server and two clients on one machine. At about year
+1650, the server started taking 30+ minutes to update at "turn done" on
both clients. Previous to that, it was taking a few seconds (lots of
stuff running in background - including seti).

        the terminal windows for each client reads as follows:
====================terminal snippet===================
/usr/local/bin/civclient
1: sendto failed: Operation not permitted
2: lost connection to server
1: sendto failed: Operation not permitted

(civclient:30634): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to set label from markup due
to error parsing markup: Error on line 1: Character ' ' is not valid at
the start of an entity name; the & character begins an entity; if this
ampersand isn't supposed to be an entity, escape it as &
2: lost connection to server
1: sendto failed: Operation not permitted

====================terminal snippet===================

        There is nothing in the syslog files that I've seen.

        In spite of the info above, the clients and server are running. The
server is using as much CPU time as possible for quite a long time (I
don't know how long as I can't stand to stay there and watch it), but I
know for fact that I've been waiting 30+ minutes - part of that with
seti shutdown - so it's using 90% cpu.

the above snippet was taking after 1) putting seti in a permanent
"pause" condition, and 2) beginning a new "turn done" evolution.
