[Freeciv-Dev] (PR#12459) CVS compiling error: unresolvable relocation

I have been having problem compiling CVS head due to the following error:

/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld:gui-gtk-2.0/libguiclient.a(graphics.o)(.text+0x388):
unresolvable relocation against symbol `cursors'
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld:final
link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [civclient] Error 1

I am using gcc version 3.3.5  (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5-r1, ssp-3.3.2-3,
pie-8.7.7.1).

The S2_0 branch compiles just fine.  Anyone knows what might be wrong?
