I downloaded this evening the so-called seventh beta 2.0.0 for Windows
(Freeciv-2.0.0-beta7-win32.zip). It exhibits the same issue:

  Jeu : L'attaque de votre $s a échoué contre $s de $s$s !

(in english: "the attack of your $s failed against $s of $s$s!")

Furthermore, accented characters "é" (e acute) or "è" (e grave) are not
displayed
correctly in the demographics report. They appear as a combination of two
bytes, such as "é" (A tilde, followed by a copyright mark).

Best regards,

Laurent
