I don't doubt it. I confirm your suspicion. This is how it works.

yes. As much as I hate to admit it, vasc may be right. 
player name == leader name and this is somewhat confusing.

except in the above instance, where the server will send to the user if
it _can't_ find a player name and _can_ find a username, then the single
colon will work.
