I'm no expert, but
1. I supposed this was working in any Terminal now.
2. I have used a non-UTF terminal.
3. I have the problem both with de_DE@euro *and* de_DE@UTF-8
4. When I use an UTF-8 terminal and de_DE@UTF-8 I get:

(That's not quite true, I see spaces instead of '?')
