Everyone knows about this bug.  rt.freeciv.org's RT corrupts binaries. 
Now I am creating a ticket for it.

It is the result of a bug in Perl.  Upgrading Perl is apparently quite
difficult and the admins haven't had time to upgrade the whole system. 
Current status: a new perl has been installed in parallel on
rt.freeciv.org, RT runs through it at http://rt.freeciv.org:8008/.  The
new RT may be buggy and it hasn't been tested whether or not it still
corrupts binaries.
