We will require 2.2.x after a certain time period has elapsed and there
are more 2.2.x users.
I plan to simplify some parts of the code using new features present in 2.2.x.

However the fact remains all GTK+ versions so far have had bugs or
nuisances of some sort hence AFAIK there is no perfect choice. Find the
most appropriate for you and use it.
