I think we need to find out why it is there in the first place,
and provide that functionality.

As far as I can see, its purpose was to allow automatic game starting.
But this is not desirable when multiple players are involved.
So perhaps it would be good to have a /se tautostartonconnect option
that starts the game on the very first connection.

I once had a (broken) patch that allowed this,
by adding an /on command, so you could say  /on join start.
Perhaps that is prettier, too.  It also allows things like
/on join cmdlevel info and /on start cmdlevel info, but it
may not be desirable to have this much programmability.
