Well, neither have I...but my understanding is that it's really hard just to use it, and much harder to actually hit anything (much less a knight on horseback who's trying to kill you).

A crossbow, on the other hand, is point-and-shoot. It may take ages to reload, but it doesn't take either strength or skill, particularly. Truly a tool for the masses.
