 There is variable length packets. At least packet length often depends on
capabilities another end has (some info is not sent to older clients). I
have seen other variable length packets also, but can't quite recall
whether it was in cvs or just some patch. Anyway, length of packet can be
variable (even if this feature is not currently used).
