where is my mind today? ok, so there is a good reason to set the limit at 20:
* first of all, everybody who is not interested in limiting the amount of
units that can be on one square can simply leave the option set to 0 and
there are no limits, nothing changes compared to the current situation.
* second, the upper limit of 20 becomes reasonable when the stacked combat
is introduced. So stacked combat is the option to join units into squads
and to have the full squad attack all units on the defending tile at once.
When combat starts, two windows will pop up around the combat area on the
map, one showing the units in the attacking squad and one showing the
defending units. combat proceeds and the units get wounded or die and the
windows disappear again.
Due to the graphical limits of your map-area, the number of units that can
be shown in the pop-up windows is limited. Two windows with 20 units each
(30x30 or 45x45 pixels per unit), aligned in 2 rows give two windows with
sizes of (60x300 or 300x60, 90x450 or 450x90 respectively, depending on the
direction of combat), placed on the map in an area of about 180x300,
300x180 or 270x450, 450x270 pixels. This is i believe a reasonable limit.
* third, if you bother to use the server option and set limits to the unit
stacks, why set limits that will become apparent only a few times in the
whole game?

sorry about the confusion
marc
