another option to make city growth/game interface more interesting:

remove the workers from the city window and place them directly on the map.

i think it would be practical, because you can see what the workers are doing (often not what you want)at a glance, and prevent stupid mistakes (like forgetting to boost production when you're building the desired wonder and don;t care about growth)

also, it would be an idea to treat the workers as if they were true units. This would allow transfer of population from one city to the other (i have no idea how this messes up game balance, but i can see that it would be desirable to do so often)

I too think that seems reasonable. If for nothing else, then at least to
get room for a bigger city graphic :-)
