I can't see any benefits from it (not a real-world viewpoint, just from
an egoistic "leader of the Civilization" point of view, really! Slavery
is ... horrible!) except that it should be sort of a necessarity for
democracy (ehm ... maybe not, the Greeks had something they like to
call "democracy" where the slaves didn't participate - and I don't think
it should affect the production much).

It will reduce shield production (slavery keeps up production), reduce
trade (trading slaves was big business some hundred years ago) and even
reduce happyness (the rich people need slaves to make them happy).

Further on, I think it actually will even increase unhappiness. The
slaves aren't unhappy citizens that can revolt, they're just slaves. When
they're "upgraded" to citizens they quite often own nothing and quite
often become unhappy. It's really a disgrace if it's true, but I've heard
rumours that the gap between the average white and the average black in
the US is ... big, and very real! I've also heard rumours that racism,
dependent on the color of the skin, is a real issue over there. It just
doesn't make sense!

Putting an end to slavery promotes Democracy, might increase the
nations global "goodwill" (at least in the current post-modern world),
promote good moral values (which again can increase paid tax, reduce
administrational costs - overall reduce corruption), and to some extent
increase quality (Quite many lives were saved (and probably German lifes
lost) during WWII because the ammunition - produced by POWs and other
concentration camp prisoners) often didn't work as it should).
