Hi. I'm trying to get freeciv to run under cygwin, and am having
trouble with X servers. I wonder if someone who's used this
combination can help.

I have freeciv 1.9.1, compiled successfully under cygwin_95 20.1.
I've also installed the X11R6.4 libraries & clients for cygwin, from
http://dao.gsfc.nasa.gov/software/grads/win32/X11R6.4/.

For an X server, I'm trying out demo versions of XWinPro and X-Win32
(Starnet). Under XWinPro I can briefly start freeciv; all works fine
for about 1 minute, after which XWinPro crashes with the error message
"XDMCP: too many retransmissions, declaring session dead".

Under X-Win32, I can't even establish a connection. Using rsh and
rexec the connection is refused, and under XDMCP nothing seems to
happen at all. This is not surprising since I can't find rsh, rexec,
or xdm in cygwin, and there's no /etc/rhosts or /etc/passwd either.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Andrew.
