Are you using the gtk+ client?  When I use that client, I find that if the
focus is on the chat line, the arrow keys no longer work to move units in
the main window.  A way I've found to get back to the main window is to use
the <Tab> key to advance to focus to some other widget.  Then the arrow
keys begin to work.  Notably, clicking on the main window does *not* give
it the focus.

For someone who knows gtk+ better than I:  It would be nice if clicking on
the main window would give it the focus.
