I recently had occasion to do both a spreadsheet and a simple text
document on the same subject.

The document was simple 2 page text and the spreadsheet was about 6
columns by 15 rows.
The spreadsheet table was to be included in the document.

I did these in OpenOffice and saved them in native format, then since I
needed to be able to access and print both at work (MScentric
environment) I also saved them in MS format.

This shows the relative sizes of the same documents saved as native to
Open Office format, then exported to MS format by Open Office.

-----

More that 3X the size for the .doc and almost 2X the size for the .xls
