Just get a connection cable with two 1/8" plugs on it to run from the
headphone jack to the sound card on your computer.  It's probably $1 or
less.  Record from the sound card and then encode to MP3.

Tools like gramofile and wavsplit (included in Debian) can help automate the
process.

If you don't have a sound card, or it's very important to get high-quality
sound, I suggest the iMic USB adapter from Griffin.  It's about $35, I
think, and features 48kHz recording and eliminates a lot of noise that you
might otherwise get with a sound card that's built in to your computer.  I'm
not 100% sure that it works with Linux, but I know it works with MacOS X and
Windows.  If you buy it from apple.com, you get free shipping.
