My manager just posted a job opening for an *entry level* HP-UX Unix
administrator for Boeing Wichita's Unix Technical Services group. (First
shift.)

Applications will not be accepted after the 17th. It doesn't seem to be
posted on the external website yet.

http://jobsearch.boeing.newjobs.com/

Search for "unix" in "all categories" under "Wichita". The requisition
number is 01-1013986. You can submit your resume online, but email me if
you do so I can make sure it gets into my manager's hands.

This opening was previously a Level III admin and we've already
interviewed a couple people who didn't qualify. But in order to
down-grade the opening to a Level I, we have to open the job up to new
applications. We're only considering degreed applicants, but none of our
applicants had Unix experience outside of the school environment...
someone who's been using Linux at home could have an advantage. (You'll
have to beat a really killer presentation given by one applicant... she
doesn't have practical experience, but she put together a very impressive
portfolio of her school work showing her coding, documentation, and
organization skills.)

(This position will also support the Action Remedy System, which is, in
part, the trouble-ticket system for the entire campus.)

Working for Boeing can be a pain in the butt, but the benefits are great
(great pay, flex-time and alternate work-weeks, two weeks vacation plus
Christmas through New Year's Day) and it's a great learning environment...
we're doing high-availability clustering and have nearly 100 HP K-class
servers. A full compliment of admins means 10 people in the oncall
rotation for the HP group, meaning you'd be oncall only one week out of
every ten.
