the old serial port modems all use just 7 of the pins available in
either the DB25 or DB9 configurations. In fact, if you check the specs
for a serial port you can find the pinouts.
Yes, the DB25 and DB9 connectors are equivalent with a simple DB9/DB25
converter that is available anywhere electronics parts are sold
(almost). 8-)
