To answer the original question...

It's sort of a functional cross between MacOS and Unix.  It's got an
easy-to-use Mac-like interface with a Unix-like command shell.  It works on
both Macs (PPC, I presume) and PCs.

I installed BeOS 3, I believe.  And when I tried to set it up to dial into
my ISP (sitting in the same room as me), the system locked up.  Oh well.  I
haven't even tried using it since then.
