Is the HP drive a SCSI? If so, it's pretty easy; just compile the
SCSI generic (sg) driver into the kernel and then use a program like
cdrecord to burn your disks.
If IDE, you need the SCSI emulation driver. I've never used it so I
have no more information past that.
I have no idea on the parallel side.
