First off look at /etc/printcap and see what the short name for your
printer is. If your epson printer doesn't have lp as part of its
short name then you'll have to specify the printer you wish to use
when you run lpr. As an example, here is the /etc/printcap entry
for my laser:

# Lexmark 4039 10R with ljet3-filter

lm|Lexmark 4039 10R: \
        :lp=/dev/lp1: \
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lm: \
        :if=/usr/local/bin/ljet3-filter: \
        :mx#0: \
        :sh

Now when I want to send a job to the laser I use the command
"lpr -P lm blah."

I also have a generic entry for lp that uses no filter that I set up
so I could use Worrdperfect 8 as it has its own drivers. As an
interesting aside, since the laser has a built in Postscript
interpreter, I can print ps docs by simply using the "lpr blah.ps"
command, but if its not a true .ps file then I get the usual stair
case effects and blank pages.
