You probably just need to create an account with the 'adduser' script, and
leave the accounts with the default settings unless you have a specific
reason to change them.

That's what I've done, and the only changes I've made have been for when I
need access to something that the normal user doesn't have access to.  My
sound card, for instance.  I added myself to the 'audio' group so I could
play sounds as a normal user.
