I will probably not be of much help when it comes to diald, as I have
never set it up before. What I can tell you is how SouthWind does PPP
(see my sig). When your modem connects to SouthWind's modem, the
terminal server basicly looks at the first bit of data that you send
to it. If you send a PPP LCP packet, then a ppp server process
starts. If you send anything else, then the terminal server telnets to
onyx so you can log into your shell account. From that point, a ppp
connection is impossible.
This is different than some providers where you have to log in to a
shell account, start a ppp server process, then start ppp on your
end. That is probably what you were trying to do with your DOS program
that you mentioned.
As was mentioned in another post, there is documentation on the aclug
website for setting up a basic ppp connection that will work for
SouthWind connections. As for making daild work with that, ask me
once I have that set up :-)
