it's version 0.53, which is the latest release... i know of others
successfully using WM, so it's not it... i am using the SVGA display
adapter (same as when in RedHat earlier), with XFree86-3.3.2.3... here is
what X -showconfig shows:
XFree86 Version 3.3.2.3 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6300)
Release Date: July 15 1998
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer
than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting
problems. (see http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
Operating System: Linux 2.0.36 i686 [ELF]

i am curious about how it says that the OS is Linux 2.0.36 i686 when i am
running 2.2.6 on an i586... would this cause a problem? also, is
/usr/X11R6/bin/X supposed to be an executable, or a link to the server? in
redhat, it was a link to the SVGA server... i am using the default
installation of X that was in Debian 2.1... should i uninstall, and install
X from source (using the latest version)?
