That generally means that you are getting to a Unix login prompt
instead of negotiating PPP.  This is generally indicative of a problem 
in the chat script.  Have you tried the one from
http://www.aclug.org/ispconn/southwind/southwind.chat?

The log is looking a bit suspicious; this could be a problem.
