Is it possible that your modem has an internal loopback function? Some of
the earlier ones I've used have had that. Possibly it was activated and
stays that way until changed or else your init string is doing it every
time??? I'm afraid I can't offer any other suggestions. I still don't
have mine working, but the "loopback" function rings a bell from the moldy
recesses of my memory. Hope this helps.

Subject: [aclug-L] Another modem problem

At the linux install, I got my modem working. But now I have a new
problem. In minicom, I get no response at all to typing 'ATZ'. (this
was responding, at the install fest). When I try to connect to southwind.
the process terminates and leaves the messages below. What
does "serial line is looped back" mean?

Any help would be appreciated.
