Try:
mkfontdir .
Then make sure the path is listed in /etc/X11/XF86Config.
Also, make sure that they are the kind of Type 1 fonts that can be
used by X. What are the filenames of your fonts?

The kinds of font files read by mkfontdir depend on con
figuration parameters, but typically include PCF (suffix
".pcf"), SNF (suffix ".snf") and BDF (suffix ".bdf"). If
a font exists in multiple formats, mkfontdir will first
choose PCF, then SNF and finally BDF.
