1) return the winmodem
2) read http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO
3) buy a non-winmodem
4) open your case
5) put it in a free slot
6) put case back on
7) boot linux
8) run minicom
9) dial number
