i'm trying to setup a 2 machine(for the moment)network useing a rj45
crossover cable and two smc ethernet cards.
i used ip's and netmask's from an example i found in one of my
books.(192.168.93.1 and 192.168.93.2) several other examples used the same
numbers so i asume these were safe.

at first i was getting various errors when i did a ping ("ping 192.168.93.2"
from .1)
something to the effect of "no network found"
i changed the host names and the errors went away but it does nothing.

when i break it with CRTL C. i get a message that " 76 sent 0
received......."
or something like that.

i'm not sure where to look.
i think what i've done so far is correct, but suspect that there is
something that i've not yet done.

i tried to start an xterm on a rsh.
it told me that it could not find the host (oz.rainbow(192.168.93.2))

i thought of volunteering to use them as ginypigs for a meeting.
but i'm probably the only one who uses PHT.

help!
