Here is what works for me:

/etc/resolv.conf:

nameserver 206.53.103.1
nameserver 206.53.103.3

Those are SouthWind's DNS numbers by the way

127.0.0.1       localhost

# Local machines
10.0.0.1        panther.ses.net         panther
10.0.0.2        cougar.ses.net          cougar
10.0.0.3        tiger.ses.net           tiger
10.0.0.4        bobcat.ses.net          bobcat

ses.net is my made up domain for my LAN

/etc/host.conf:

order hosts bind
multi off
nospoof on
alert on


Note that with the above I am not running my own DNS server and I am
not currently doing IP Masquerading. If you are doing those, then
things could be different for you.
