I don't recall having heard of this before, but one other person
reported seriously buggy behavior in Exchange dealing with headers that
could be impacting you if you are running with quite huge mailboxes
(tens of thousands of messages).
It doesn't really sound like you are, but just throwing that idea out
there anyhow...
