Invalid flag name in UID Store command

When I run offlineimap.py, I get the following error when trying to sync to 
IMAP mailboxes:

BAD Invalid flag name  in UID Store command

This appears to be in response to:

UID STORE 23350 FLAGS ()

Is this trying to clear flags? The server appears to accept a command of the 
form:
UID STORE 23350 -FLAGS (\Answered ....)

Where all possible flags are listed.

What is the best fix for this?
