man lilo.conf will tell you about using passwords (i forget the syntax
offhand), but it only (last i saw) supports plain-text passwords...

also, not all distros exhibit this "feature"/"bug"...  slack does not allow
you to get in w/o typing a password... i assume this is configurable, but
have no clue where...
