'cd /etc/rc.d'
'grep inetd *'

that should find out which rc script is calling inetd at boot...  change
that to the location of xinetd and that should work ...  some systems have
'/etc/rc.d/init.d' or similar directories...  look thru init.d which hosts
the main scripts...  everything in the 'rc<runlevel>' or 'rc.<runlevel>'
dirs are just symlinks to the files in init.d...

i know in slack, inetd is called from rc.inet2 (atleast in the
semi-current tree...)
