I had a similar problem when I setup LILO to use my boot partition.  I set
it to use the Master Boot Record (MBR) and that fixed my problem.

 hi! need help in this: i have recompiled a 2.4.2 kernel on an IBM
netvista computer 810 motherboard. i have also configured lilo with the
new image to boot. all the steps have been followed properly. but when at
boot time, i give the new kernel label at lilo prompt, it says no setup
signature found, and just hangs...

what could be the problem and ths solution? thanks in advance.
