Look at the HOWTO at www.rpm.org. The simplest way to do it is just to
hand-edit your spec file. If you do the spec file right, you should be
able to download, unpack, configure, build, and package all from the
spec file, using the rpm command. But life is simpler if you just ignore
the initial steps and work on the package part first.
You already have everything you need on RH 6.1 (rpm, text editor).
