For those of you who are not following the Mozilla "bug" please see

        https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=388195

In short, Brendan Eich has said he does not (at least in theory) have an
objection to a JavaScript implementation of Gopher remaining in Core. This
is not a promise, but it *is* definite hope for keeping Gopher in Mozilla 2
and thereafter. I hope to get a backported first draft done in a few weeks
(mostly adapting to Mozilla's house style, plus the different conventions
for image resources and l10n).

I intend to keep maintaining OverbiteFF, however, since a) such an
implementation will not occur until FF4 most likely; b) certain of the
features may not make it back into the port -- I imagine the port number
restriction will be a particularly hard battle to wage; and c) there appears
to have been a very 'large' number of downloads in the last 24 hours, almost
a hundred or so. Hardly our very own Download Day, but still a nice surprise.
I noticed Peter's post to h2g2 (Peter, I neglected to include you as a tester
and this will be rectified in the next version), and several blogs have
picked it up as well, so I think it would be poor form not to support these
people not to mention those of you who are using it now.

OverbiteFF has been uploaded to Firefox Add-ons, but because it is a new
extension it is still listed as "experimental" and not shown to default
users. If people feel so inclined :), the editors are more likely to approve
extensions with reviews and then we can make it public. It is listed as
1.1.1395 which I have also uploaded to the main site, but this has internal
text file changes (and Peter's credit) only with no code changes.

Things are definitely looking up.
