I have RH8.0 but am running freeciv from CVS. What
you want to do when you get a failed dependecy message
is to go to rpmfind.net, copy and paste the missing
file ("libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0" in this case) into the
search box, and find the distribution in the search
results that comes closest to what you have. (If you
get no results, you're probably better off foregoing
the RPM altogether and try to compile from source.)
In this case, you're very much in luck, because there
is a RH8.0 rpm:
ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/8.0/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/SDL_mixer-1.2.4-5.i386.rpm
Try installing that. If you get more missing file
messages, repeat the process. If you get conflicts,
things get much trickier -- let me know what errors
you get and I'll try to guide you. At some point,
though, running from source becomes much easier.
