I've never played Civ or Civ2.

I find it confusing that in Freeciv a destroyed town leaves a piece of road
(or railway once discovered) in that place, but not an irrigated square, even
if it is next to a water source so it could have been irrigated. The only
benefit of allowing a settler/engineer to irrigate the square is so that it
can be used to supply more water to adjacent squares.
