There already was a poll on this subject (check the old polls on
freeciv.org).

I use the Xaw client exclusively, as do the two people I game against.
When I tried the Gtk client I was disappointed at its quality.  IIRC, some
things just didn't work (e.g., cursor hotkeys to move my units, making
dialog boxes go away by pressing Esc), and it felt much less mature than
the Xaw client.  The Gtk client seemed like a reimplementation of the Xaw
client using a different widget set, and didn't take any advantage of the
Gtk widgets; it just looked very unpolished (by the standards of other Gtk
apps).

Of course, it's almost certainly improved by now.
