It's most noticeable when you hit the turn done.  It seems that whenever new
windows are being drawn, like when you open up a city, etc., it takes a long
time to fill in the window.  Maybe it's my X server.  I am using
Refections-X.  I just didn't have as much trouble with the 1.8.0 version
(that was before the GTK changeover).

I hadn't noticed that it was a lot slower, but I haven't played
extensively.
