Hmm, maybe I should also mention that the autosaves always seem to be a turn
or two ahead of the last turn I actually played, which is why I thought they
were part of an ai "playahead" feature.
For example, here are some of the recent saved games:

-rw-rw-r-- 1 rhk rhk 58220 Apr 17 18:27 civ+0334m.sav.gz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 rhk rhk 57740 Apr 3 21:38 civ+0334.sav.gz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 rhk rhk 58471 Apr 11 13:22 civ+0335.sav.gz
The last turn I actually played was the civ+0334m.sav.gz (earlier today).
Note the civ+0335.sav.gz and civ+0334.sav.gz games saved one or two weeks
ago!
The versions I'm using are:
