Wow, do you have a source for that? ODCE says the first meaning of Britons
is "inhabitant of S. Britain before the roman conquest" and second "native
or inhabitant of Great Britain". So Britons --> inhabitants and British -->
people, where the latter fits more here - at least I think so. But I'm none
of these and not competent so. ;-)
