The Kurds are a ethnic minority (with over 20 million members) of the 
Middle East.

Cities are in Kurdish language and from the rather limited area of 
Kurdish Autonomous Region of Iraq. That was the safe bet, so to speak. 
The Kurdistan flag i flown in Kurd dominated areas of Iraq and Turkey 
etc, but banned in Iran and Syria.
