The first "release candidate" for Freeciv 2.0.0 has been released. You can download it from either of:

  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/freeciv/beta/freeciv-2.0.0-rc1.tar.gz
  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/freeciv/beta/freeciv-2.0.0-rc1.tar.bz2

Windows binaries are not ready yet; you'll be able to download them from the web site when they are.

Note that this is still not the final 2.0.0 release, although there may not be any more changes before the release. Thanks to everyone who has helped to find bugs over the long long course of the beta releases. If you find a bug please send a report to bugs@xxxxxxxxxxx. Try to give us all the information possible, including save games, step by step instructions, and everything else you did to reproduce it (if you can reproduce the bug). If you find a crash in the Windows binary include the civserver.RPT or civclient.RPT in your report. If you have multiple bugs, remember to report them in separate e-mails.

See http://freeciv.org/ for more info.
