How about tech reqs? SMAC had tech reqs for specialists. Not to mention
obsoletion.

Also, I don't think these specialists should be in the default ruleset, or,
if you do add them to the default ruleset, change the names to something
less futuristic.

So... Instead of:
Doctor, Empath, Engineer, Librarian, Technician, Thinker, Transcend

How about:
Minstrel, Actor, Engineer, Librarian, Merchant, Scientist, Entrepreneur
