It just occurred to me that I might get more editorial feedback if I
include the full changed entries. Here's what you get when you click on
Diplomacy on the Help menu:

" If you have recently contacted (or established an embassy with)
another player, then you can arrange a diplomatic meeting. This is
done by going to the `_Reports' menu, selecting `Players', clicking
on the player with whom you wish to meet, and selecting `Meet' from
the `Player' menu. If the entry under the embassy column is not
blank and the other player is connected (or a server AI) then a
diplomacy dialog will pop up.

In this dialog you can choose to:

   - Trade Maps (Entire map or just Sea),

   - Trade Advances,

   - Trade Cities,

   - Share vision,

   - Make Pacts,

   - and Give Gold.

The menu on the left is what you're offering, the menu on the
right is what you're requesting. For gold, enter the amount and
press Enter.

There is no need to trade like for like, by trading say, an
advance or city for gold - you can consider this buying and selling.

    A couple of notes:

   - You can't give away your capital.

     - You can't always make alliances with the AI, for several
different reasons.

   - If you don't have an embassy, then you can't request any
advances. (If you have an embassy, advances you both know will not
show up in the dialog.)

   - If you can't see a city on your map, then you can't request it.

Of course, the owner of that city can still give it to you, in
which case the area around the city is shown on your map. One
important thing to note: any units in the field and supported by
that city are also transferred (but not those sitting in other
cities). So make sure the other player isn't getting a better deal
than you expect."

Then, under Strategy and Tactics, item 10. Interacting with other
players (Diplomacy) I have the following entry:

" It's not easy being a lone wolf. When you come in contact with
other nations, you can conduct diplomacy. (You'll need an embassy
if you haven't been in contact for a while.)

Making peace with your neighbors is generally a good idea,
unless you really are ready to make war against them. If you give
someone a reason for war ("causus bellum") by bribing their units or
inciting or poisoning their cities, they often declare war on you
without much damage to their reputation. Also, the AI may declare
war on you if you're winning the space race, even if youare an ally!

Allies can be a mixed blessing. AI nations will share all their
advances with their allies, and expect them to do the same. So,
allying with the most advanced AI can be advantageous. When someone
attacks one of your allies, you automatically go to war, so making
alliances with weaker players can be hazardous. The AI nations tend
to gang up on the strongest player, so if that's not you, making an
alliance with that player may also cause problems.

When you declare war against one player, you declare war against
all his allies, which can be really bad if you have a common ally.
In general, bribing one of their units and letting them declare war
against you is safer."

Satisfactory?
