A few friends and I solved the problem of not having a Unix shell
account permanently plugged to the Internet by setting up a server for
our use (we pay the webhosting in equals parts, etc.).

This server of ours is an old machine (Pentium 100), with Linux 7.2 and
the usual services. It does NOT have X installed (as it we don't use
it).

I tried to install Freeciv in this machine, intending to run the server
from here, but the configure script complained of lacking X, GTK,
etcetera. I had to tinker around with the makefile in order to compile
the server alone.

I think it could be a good idea to add a configure option to CVX,
possibly called --compile-server-only , that will compile only
civserver.
